The reader is given an overview of the Colt factory and its procedures in effect during a time when many of Colt's most collectible revolvers were manufactured. This comprehensive study combines factory research and historical data from 1873-1895. There are also numerous pictures of original cartridge boxes, and many period photographs of various characters with their Colt Single Action Revolvers. Alnl of the photographs of the guns are in full color - most of the photography is done by Paul Goodwin. A wealth of photographs and detailed information is presented to aid in the collecting of Colt's Pre-War Post-War Single Action Army Revolver. This study is written from both a historian's and collector's view point. Covered in detail are the characteristics unique to this revolver and complete production information. Topics in this study include presentations, sales, engraved revolvers, consecutive sets, and foreign sales. Assembled by master craftsmen, many of these fine revolvers were presented to officials and Colt personnel.
The assembly of the last of the pre-war frames began in 1947 and continued until early 1961. Presented here in reference form, is the last chapter in the story of Colt's pre-war Single Action Army revolver. While much has been written about its early history, very little has appeared in print concerning the pre-war post-war era. Its popularity began in 1872 and continues unabated today. Colt's Model P revolver is probably the most famous revolver in the world.
